Real sustainability goes further for us.

Beyond energy labels and materials. We not only conduct business with integrity toward people, but also toward the world around us. That is why we work in accordance with various sustainability guidelines to achieve this.

Sustainable Design and Build and office design at BESPARK

It is about making choices that have a positive impact in the short and the long term.

Whether it involves reusing materials, designing healthy workplaces or future proofing buildings, we turn sustainability into concrete, measurable action.

Before starting each project, we assess sustainability across several areas, such as energy consumption, material use, waste management and air quality. During renovations and redesigns, our clients are closely involved. Together, we explore the possibilities within the available budget.

We prioritise environmentally friendly materials and collaboration with local suppliers. We produce custom furniture in an energy neutral way and follow cradle to cradle principles. We aim for LED lighting and efficient climate systems. Renewal is preferred over disposal.

We also explore innovative initiatives such as creatively wrapping furniture. The end result: a sustainable office with a circular design. Curious to see our certificates? Click here.

How we demonstrate sustainability

For us, sustainability goes beyond mere ambition. That is why we have our working practices independently assessed.

Our impact is underpinned by various certifications and standards:

  • ISO 9001: Ensures quality and structure in our projects and processes.
  • ISO 14001: Focuses on environmental management and continuous improvement within our organisation and supply chain.
  • VCA**: Ensures safety and accountability in the workplace for everyone involved in the project.
  • B Corp: Looks at all these aspects as a whole and assesses whether the overall picture adds up – not just in terms of policy, but in terms of how we actually operate.

Together, these certifications ensure that sustainability is not merely a matter of good intentions, but an integral part of the way we work every day.

Paris Proof

The concept of Paris Proof refers to the ambition to reduce CO2 emissions and meet the climate goals of the Paris Agreement. It relates to making buildings more sustainable and reducing their ecological footprint. We integrate this concept into our designs for the commercial real estate market in various ways. Curious how?

BREEAM-certificate

Sander Bank, our BREEAM NL specialist, ensures that our designs meet BREEAM guidelines whenever required. Sustainability always starts in the design process. We produce in an energy neutral way, follow cradle to cradle principles and strive for environmentally conscious choices throughout the entire chain.

How we apply sustainability to our projects

Sustainable waste management

During renovations and waste management, we make conscious choices to dismantle materials sustainably and enable better reuse. This approach also extends to the people within our chain. Are they working safely and being paid fairly? These questions are central to our approach and are reflected in our certifications, including VCA**.

In our design process, we consider solutions for waste flows. For example, integrating additional data connections for printers to reduce paper usage, and improving waste management in office kitchens.

Engaging employees

Actively involving employees in sustainability decisions is essential, as the outcomes affect many aspects of the organisation. Educate employees on the ins and outs of sustainability.

Employers often invest in sustainable initiatives such as waste separation and energy efficient equipment. These efforts only succeed when employees also participate and act accordingly.

Align these initiatives with the organisation’s sustainability goals. Engaging employees is an indispensable part of this process.

We design flexible offices

No static setups, but intelligent flexibility. Chairs and tables shift like puzzle pieces, allowing a space to adapt to what is needed at any moment. Not a single square metre goes unused.

By designing flexible spaces, you can respond to changing needs. An empty meeting room can, for example, be transformed into a yoga or meditation space. The same room, but with a different purpose each time.

This keeps the work environment aligned with new ways of working.

Smart technologies

In the office, smart technologies can be used to enhance sustainability. Think of water saving solutions such as smart toilets and sensor activated taps.

By using these advanced systems, you can reduce water consumption while promoting sustainable water management.

Ergonomics

Proper ergonomics in furniture and workstations promotes employee health and comfort. That’s why we choose high quality furniture with a long lifespan and a focus on sustainable material use.

By making ergonomic and responsible choices, we create a workspace that feels comfortable and supports long term wellbeing.

Air quality

Good air quality is essential for a healthy work environment. Our focus lies on ventilation, air purification and the integration of natural elements such as plants, which help improve indoor air quality.

By combining these measures, we create a fresher and more comfortable office that supports the wellbeing of everyone who works there.

From ambition to concrete, practical examples

We make sustainability tangible by making conscious choices in every project. We deliver using electric or hybrid vehicles, combine transport routes and use reusable packaging. In our interiors, we implement energy efficient LED lighting with smart sensors, significantly reducing energy consumption.

We also choose future proof materials. We work with low emission biobased paint, sustainably produced custom furniture and circular glass and MS walls that are demountable and reusable. For flooring, we use natural or recycled materials such as Marmoleum or carpet tiles made with recycled yarn, both fitting within BREEAM and WELL guidelines.

Even the ceiling contributes to a sustainable work environment. Acoustic Acosorb spray ceilings are low maintenance, low emission and fully circular.

This is how we turn sustainability from an ambition into daily practice, visible in every detail of our projects and tangible in the quality of the work environment.

Sustainable upgrades for heritage buildings

What applies to standard buildings does not always apply to heritage properties. What is possible in terms of sustainability varies per monument. Insulating a historic building can be a challenge, but with the right approach, any property can receive a green upgrade. Frequently asked questions about sustainability at BESPARK

Sustainability is playing an increasingly important role in the design and creation of working environments. From reducing CO₂ emissions to creating a healthy and future-proof workplace, there is a great deal involved.

That’s why we’ve compiled a list of the most frequently asked questions and answers for you. This will give you a clear picture of how we put sustainability into practice within our projects. What does BESPARK mean by sustainability?

For us, sustainability goes beyond energy labels and the choice of materials. It involves making conscious choices that have a positive impact in both the short and long term, such as energy consumption, use of materials, healthy indoor air quality, ergonomics and the future-proofing of buildings.

For every project, BESPARK assesses sustainability across areas such as energy consumption, use of materials, waste management and air quality. The company uses environmentally friendly materials, LED lighting, cradle-to-cradle principles and energy-neutral production.

Paris Proof refers to the commitment to reducing CO₂ emissions and meeting the climate targets set out in the Paris Agreement. We incorporate this principle into the design and construction of buildings in order to minimise their environmental impact.

BREEAM is an internationally recognised method for assessing a building’s sustainability on the basis of sustainability credits across various categories (such as energy, water, materials and health). The more credits a building has, the higher its score and the better its sustainability performance.

By focusing on ergonomics, air quality and smart technologies (such as water-saving measures and ventilation), BESPARK creates a workplace that promotes the comfort and wellbeing of employees.

We make conscious choices regarding demolition and waste management by reusing materials, organising waste streams efficiently and incorporating sustainable solutions into the design.

Yes, we emphasise the importance of active employee involvement, so that sustainability initiatives such as waste separation and energy-efficient working practices are actually put into practice.

We use bio-based paint, circular wall systems, natural flooring materials and LED lighting. We also utilise smart technologies to reduce water consumption, for example.

By focusing on flexible layouts, reusable solutions and sustainable installations, spaces can be easily adapted to changing needs without requiring significant new resources.

With our integrated Design & Build approach, we ensure that sustainability is taken into account right from the initial sketch, so that design, choice of materials and execution form a single, coherent sustainable process. This results in a more efficient build and a future-proof working environment.
