Altera Vastgoed once again chooses BESPARK for its office renovation

The company is in full motion, and hybrid working combined with changing employee needs places new demands on the office. But that’s easier said than done. Should you renovate your current office, or is relocating the better choice?

For real estate company Altera Vastgoed, the decision was quickly made after careful consideration. Erwin Wessels, Chief Investment Officer at Altera Vastgoed, walks us through their thought process, proudly shares insights about their new office, and explains why they once again chose BESPARK.

Why renovate your office?

In 2017, we began analyzing the first adjustments to our office. At the time, the space was traditional and closed a real “classic office.” But it no longer reflected our organizational culture. Guided by our core values, we developed a new, open layout focused on transparency, where colleagues can easily connect and collaborate.

The design also ensures that business partners entering the office aren’t met with an imposing reception desk, but with an inviting reception area. In short, it’s a layout that sparks the imagination and puts people at the center.

Why renovate the office in 2017 instead of relocating?

It was clear that changes to the office layout were necessary. But which adjustments would meet the needs of both the organization and its stakeholders? That was the key question. Considering the office’s functional spaces, its central location in the Randstad, accessibility, and housing costs, relocation was quickly ruled out. The decision was made to redesign and renovate the existing office instead.

BESPARK created an inviting office through the renovation

Once the decision was made internally, a selection process led to the choice to work with BESPARK. This was quite a challenge for them, as we being a real estate company were closely involved in the renovation. Our team knows better than anyone the key considerations during office renovations, how the process works, and how to manage the end users. This allowed us to make a meaningful contribution and truly make the office our own.

We wanted the office to radiate connection and transparency as you walked through the corridors and to encourage collaboration. More natural light flowing in and greater attention to social spaces were key priorities. Our colleagues responded enthusiastically, though it did take some getting used to. For years, we had walked through closed-off corridors, whereas now you can see and acknowledge all your colleagues.

The changes were quickly appreciated. The office was no longer just a place to sit at a desk it had truly become an inviting space where people wanted to be and naturally came together.

Office Renovation 2.0

Our collaboration with BESPARK went so well the first time that we recently reached out to them again. They delivered on their promises with precise planning, organization, and budget control, which made us look back on Renovation 1.0 with great satisfaction.

After about six years of using the office, it was time for updates. Not only due to intensive use and our growing team, but also because of Covid and evolving societal trends, our needs had changed. We come to the office to meet and inspire each other—focused work can also be done from home.

We now have many hybrid meetings and wanted more spaces for interactive sessions with colleagues and business partners, as well as phone booths and quiet zones. Our office needed a refresh to support modern ways of working. Additionally, the entrance needed to clearly convey that we are a real estate company. BESPARK translated all of this exceptionally well into a new design.

We are currently in Renovation 2.0, this time with health, sustainability, and connection at the heart of the design. We’re already thrilled with the first impressions, yet we continue to evolve the space. So when it’s time for the next update in a few years, we know we’ll turn to BESPARK again!
